Antonio Rudiger was not only given a welcome befitting of his status as a football celebrity but was also mobbed by ecstatic fans on his official visit to Sierra Leone.
As part of the midseason break, Antonio Rudiger who hails originally from the small West African country, decided to go back to his root, bond with the locals and embark on philanthropic works.
The Chelsea centre back made the announcement about his planned visit to Sierra Leone days before and expressed how nostalgic it felt for him to return to where he comes from.
Well, Antonio Rudiger did not expect a mammoth crowd to throng to the airport to welcome him. His presence alone sent shivers down the spines of local folks who only knew and saw on the screens.
Seeing him physically triggered a mad adrenaline rush which got them mobbing the German footballer. Hard as he tried to fend them off his back, these eager fans were over-joyous to welcome a Premier League star – one of their own – to their country.
He wrote:
I’m speechless – these people are crazy Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this overwhelming welcome, Sierra Leone God bless you all #Hustle #AlwaysBelieve
