CLEVER PASSENGERS, SMART TROTRO MATES – Jibsam writes

One of Ghana’s finest Poets, Jibsam Quarcoo as we know him to do best has once again dropped a piece that will take your mind on a trip. This time his poetic writing focuses on Ghana and its national problems.

TAKE TIME AND GO THROUGH THIS WONDERFUL PIECE FROM JIBSAM (THE WORLD’S GREATEST)

Over the last few weeks, there has been this great longing to put pen to paper, to make good use of the notepad on my phone or sit behind my laptop and pour out the wild yelling in my brain.

Even as I type this piece of literature, I still can’t get over Ghana’s shocking defeat at the hands of the Comoros Islands, Like many patriotic folks, it’s hard to come to terms with such a humiliating result as humbling as it may be.

The black star has fallen and has no place in the sky where it once brightened the faces of Ghanaians all over the world restoring our lost hope and pride.

The star which once triggered our “hosanna” now brings to our eyes uncontrollable tears and disappointments we can’t yet quantify.

Ghana football is on its knees but this time no one would accept the proposal for marriage. A gargantuan systemic failure, a shambolic football administrative structure and a coach who seems out of touch with the modern game of football.

Many of you may disagree with me on this but the truth of the matter remains, unlike the Israelites who were led by Moses through the wilderness in search of a promised land, the general Ghanaian attitude has brought us where we are, to a land not promised but predicted, to a place of destitution, we walked the path of division, we attained higher honors in PHD “pull him down” and corruption remains a Constance of proportionality “K” in everything we do.

The general Ghanaian attitude is one that divides, an attitude that seeks the down fall of the next man rather than a rise in his fortunes. The Ghanaian story is a sad one. This statement may be up for a debate and many interpretations may be read into it but before you take a side, as a country, do we have a national agenda? A blue print guarding and guiding us every step of the way? This also could be a question for the gods.

Over the last decade, I have come into contact with many Ghanaians from all parts of the country and I have become friends with some folks across the diaspora.

Through our conversations and interactions even on social media, nothing scares the hell out of us than the uncertainty regarding the future of our beloved country.

Too many times this bus (Ghana) has changed the drivers at the wheel but the road remains untarred and the engine needs a new oil; doing away with the bus isn’t part of the solution but maybe what we really need is a luxurious presidential jet with a state of the art bathroom where we can shower after running the bus into the bushes.

For more than twenty years, we have been bombarded with political rhetoric, vague and empty promises from politicians on both sides of the coin.

The umbrella hasn’t shielded us enough from the torrential rains of economic hardships neither has the elephant carried us through the storms of inflation it promised, on the contrary, the elephant has become a symbol of disappointment teaching us the lessons of trust the hard way but who do we blame? The Ghanaian system is fractured with tribalism, scarred by ethnocentrism, divided by political party affiliations and to some extent differences in religious ideologies.

The light which once brightened at the end of the tunnel has faded into utter darkness. This country Ghana was once a virgin promised to the richest of merchants across the world.

From far and near, suitors visited to behold her eyes of gold, her smile of diamond, to taste her lips of cocoa and to settle on her fertile lands where cash crops would grow.

This beautiful virgin once upon a time symbolized self-reliance and political independence inspiring sister countries across the continent to fight for same.

In 2022 the story is different, the virgin of 1957 has lost its virginity not only to the Europeans and Americans but even now to the Chinese. Oh! How the mighty have fallen, from “Ghana beyond aid” to “Ghana will die without aid” is all we see but with a system that makes demons out of saints, we have to manage our expectations of others especially those we elect into political office since it came to them at great financial cost.

We all have a hand in the release of “Barabbas”, none is innocent, and our hands are stained with the blood of “Christ”. The pieces of silver can no longer provide us with the three course meal we so desired yet the politician demands an E- levy from our toil and blood.

Na who cause am?? It is often said that a country that doesn’t honor its heroes and heroines is not worth dying for and Ghana is a proud example of such country.

As a people, we have no regard for the enviable legacies fellow Ghanaians have built over the years and will stop at nothing to vilify and bring them down.

The twin spirit of greed and jealousy is present in almost every Ghanaian household, we just can’t fathom the fact that our next door neighbor is doing better than we are or the fact that some form of promotion went to someone else other than our selfish selves. Our society encourages fighting one another when it should be encouraging us to challenge one another. Some may argue this is not peculiar to Ghana alone. I agree but what is the rate of development in those countries as compared to our beloved Ghana?

Writing in trotro isn’t much fun especially with all eyes on me. but even as I type, I can’t take my eye off this beautiful woman stealing glances.

?The mate is yet to give me my change after nearly 15mins but I understand his shortcomings perfectly well, he is a Ghanaian like all of us in this bus and may be suffering from the “forgetfulness syndrome” president Mahama diagnosed some years ago but no matter what happens I will take my change, Insha Allah!

The country hot, economy hot, Blackstar players hot, GFA hot, Coach Milovan hot, the trotro inside hot and I am no exception. WE ALL WE HOT!!!
