The Ghanaian hiplife genre has produced is one of the very musical categories that has produced a great number of personalities we can boast of today.

In fact, I can say that the highlife genre is the most liked musical category in the whole country. Any points to refute my claims?

The self-acclaimed originator of rap music in Ghana & Highlife veteran Gyedu Blay Ambolley has in an interview stated that Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi whom we know to be the best in highlife musicians are not.

According to Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi are not doing the proper highlife music as it should but rather have adopted the funky and reggae style of music adding their twi verses to make it appealing.

The veteran musician speaking on Kingdom plus 101.9 FM in Accra explained that Kojo Antwi’s songs can be likened to that of reggae because all his songs have some elements of that genre in it hence can’t be called highlife.

Speaking from experience as a long-standing highlife ‘god’ in Ghana he said that the Jamaicans brought the reggae genre and instead of us to create our own, some musicians capitalized on that and since have produced songs with the style.
