Ghanaian Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe has sentenced a Ghanaian fraudster, Vida Patty Agboletey to 18 years imprisonment for conspiracy to defraud by false pretenses and money laundering.
According to the news gathered by Ghpage.com, Vida Patty Agboletey conspired with another Nigerian fraudster, Chigozie Awom to dupe an American of unspecified an amount of money and other materials such as laptops, mobile phones etc.
According to the court, Awom used the fictitious name, Davis Wingate whiles Vida Patty Agboletey used the name, Elizabeth Caldwell.

Awom was the person who led the operation. He met the victim (flight attendant with US Airways) at an online dating site. The two started a relationship, and Awom using the name Davis started demanding money and other items from the victim.
Awom finally suggested a fictitious project to the victim who fell for it. Vida Patty Agboletey’s Bank account at the Fidelity Bank was used for the transfer of the money.
But before Vida Patty Agboletey could withdraw the money from the bank, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) froze the account due to the suspicion of fraud and money laundering.
Apart from the custodial sentence, the court, presided over by, sentenced Agboletey to pay a fine of GHC12,000.00 or in default spend 48 months in jail.
EOCO has also been ordered by the court to transmit US$20,000.00 in the convict’s frozen bank account at Fidelity Bank.
The activities of fraudsters in Ghana has increased lately with the infusion of Nigerian fraudsters migrating to Ghana to practice their illegal act.
