When President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, then-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) launched his campaign to be president of Ghana in 2008, one person who has stood by him through it all has been Ghanaian Musician Kwabena Kwabena.
Even when he lost the 2008 and 2012 elections, Kwabena Kwabena stood by him and composed songs after songs to help push the campaign.
It has, therefore, come as a surprise that Kwabena Kwabena despite his love and support for Nana Addo could be neglected now that Nana Addo is the president.
Recently, Kwabena Kwabena celebrated his birthday on the same day with Shatta Wale, a known NDC member. Shatta was congratulated and subsequently invited to the Flagstaff house by Nana Addo. Not even a single word was uttered to Kwabena Kwabena by the president.
Again, the ministry of tourism, Arts, and culture just last month unveiled 50 tourism ambassadors mainly made up of celebs to lead a campaign to sell Ghana’s Tourism to the world here too, Kwabena Kwabena was missing but Abeiku Santana who openly campaigned and even hinted of standing for Parliamentary seat on NDC ticket was on the list.
But speaking to the media, Kwabena Kwabena says he is not worried about the neglect by Nana Addo. He stated he risk his career and campaigned for the President so even if the industry gets better under Akufo-Addo’s administration, it will be enough for him.
“God rewards the good deeds of people and that is what I’m looking forward to. At least, I have accomplished my aim of campaigning for a better party to a government the country . that is enough satisfaction for me .” Besides, my career is still at its peak and I’m thankful to God that it still feeds me and I don’t need to depend on anyone” he said
Touching on why the neglect by the ministry of tourism, Kwabena Kwabena said:
“I don’t think I’m the best to answer that question. Those who selected the ambassadors should have a better explanation on why I was not included. I think I have all qualities to take up such a role but unfortunately, I wasn’t selected”.
He, however, added that the music industry is all he cares about and no individual person. Not even himself. He said:
“This is the main reason why I put my career at risk to campaign for the party. It shouldn’t just be about me but the whole music industry. There must be right policies to push Musicians to the next level to compare favorably on the market.
