Michael Essien, the 35-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Persib Bandung in Indonesia, now has a statue in his honour.
The statue which was built in Kumasi opened yesterday at that popular Boadi Road in honour of former Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien has caused fans, followers and football lovers on social media to uproar the work of the sculptor. It is unclear as to who the sculptor is.
Many fans of the former Chelsea and Ghana midfielder argued that the sculptor did a ‘shoddy’ job with the statue of Michael Essien who played for Ghana, Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan.
Fans and Followers took their social media handles to make a mockery of the work of the sculptor for putting up such a statue which looked nothing as compared to the experienced and talented footballer.

And now we’ve got this monstrosity to pay tribute to Lyon, Chelsea and Real Madrid legend Michael Essien.
The 35-year-old boasts 58 caps for his beloved Ghana, and the nation chose to pay tribute to one of their most famous sons with this strange looking erection in the capital city of Accra.
As you can see, poor Essien’s face looks more like a robotic version of Grace Jones, whilst he’s been given what looks like a midget’s bottom half.
As for the contorted pose, he’s in, we’re not sure that’s physically possible. And if it is, it probably belongs on Broadway rather than the football pitch.
