Some people are using my name for sakawa to scam others – MP. Shirley Ayorkor Opens Up

Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom constituency and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has disclosed in an interview that some people are using her name to scam people who are desperate to travel outside of the country.

Mobile money is great and has come to ease the mode of transactions in the country; from transferring monies to family and friends and paying for items bought at a certain POS.

However, MTN Mobile Money is far from great. In fact, it appears to be an endless case of fraud peddling from its mobile money vendors.

It’s strange how we hardly hear of Tigo Cash, Vodafone Cash or Airtel Money fraud cases yet MTN Mobile Money fraud seems to be everywhere

According to her, numerous Facebook accounts have been created in her name, using it as a bait to lure people into paying huge amounts into mobile money accounts.

In her efforts to find those behind this indescribable acts, she has approached the various telcos but all they say is before they can give information a person’s number, a court order has to be placed for them to carry out such move to access information on a registered SIM.

She also stated that her ministry is not the only one suffering this menace but other ministers have also confirmed to her of the same problem.

She further advised Ghanaians that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs don’t give out visas to citizens so they should be vigilant when anybody tries to lure you with such information.
