Some members of the opposition party the NDC last Saturday, November 16, 2019, embarked on a nationwide weeding exercise.

The exercise also took place in the far Northern and Bono Regions.

In the photos sighted on social media, the party members including an elderly woman were busily wedding in the town, farmlands and by the roadside.

At Madina in Accra, some were clad in NDC T-shirts and were seen busily wedding around the highway.

The move is in solidarity with the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama who had earlier been spotted in a viral video clearing overgrown weeds in the median of the Mahama Road.

Some of those who engaged in the clean-up exercise at Madina revealed that they wanted to follow after the party’s flagbearer, Mahama, who weeded in Accra recently.

Others also said they wanted to promote good hygiene, get rid of mosquitoes to prevent malaria.

“We’ve been able to clear the weeds around the road because if there are a lot of weeds around, it generates mosquitoes. So I’m appealing to everyone that we should come together and help to build a better Ghana,” one of them said.

The members also said the weeding exercise has become a part of the party now and would be considered in the first week of every month till 2020 when Mahama becomes president.

“This inspiration is coming from our former President John Dramani Mahama… This also gives us a signal to take it upon ourselves as the NDC to implement this in the first week of every month until 2020 if God permits when he [Mahama] will be restored into power,” another person said.
