Member of Parliament and lawmaker, Hawa Koomson has confirmed and defended her actions after firing several gunshots in the air at the registration centers at Awutu Senya East Constituency where she is the incumbent MP.

According to reports, the Honourable Mavis Hawa Koomson stated that she was forced to go to that extent after she recognized that some NDC members in the area where engaging in illegalities as far as the registration is concerned.

According to her, these NDC hoodlums have bused several people in the area to take part in the registration process which is illegal.

However, concerning her possession of a firearm, she stated that is was for her protection as such she would not explain why she an MP has a gun beside her police escort.

“I’m a member of Parliament so if I’m moving and I’ve in my possession my firearm because you don’t know who can cause harm to you…or is it because I’m a woman? My Police escort was not with me. I woke up at dawn so my Police escort was not with me. So if I go somewhere and my Police is not with me, I keep my gun to protect myself.” Honorable Koomson stated.

She also added that these same people were intimidating those around so she did the ‘needful’ by ‘defending’ herself.

“Please I cannot tell you the kind of gun I use. What you should be asking is why I fired warning shots at the Registration Center. I cannot keep a gun that is not licensed in my possession. I won’t mention the kind of gun but I can tell you that it’s a licensed gun”. she said.

The Honourable MP has however released a press statement today 21 July, detailing what ensued at the registration centers at the Kasoa polling stations.
