Deputy National Democratic Congress General Secretary Koku Anyidoho who was arrested by the police after predicting the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be overthrown is still in custody at the National Police Headquarters at Osu.
Reports we are gathering indicates that there have been several attempts by Party Executives and Lawyers to grant a bail for their deputy general secretary but none of them has yielded a result.

This made party supporters furious over actions by the Police Service to keep their party executive in custody since they regard what he said on Accra-based Happy Fm stressing that there could be a coup d’etat if the current Government decides not to hold on with the US Military base that is due to be set up in Ghana.
His exact comments on an Accra-based radio station Happy FM are reproduced:

On January 13, 1972, a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led a movement that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo-Addo’s father was a ceremonial president. Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself.”
“There’ll be a civil revolt. There’ll be a people’s movement. During President John Mahama’s tenure didn’t we receive similar threats from the likes of Let My Vote Count and OccupyGhana. There’ll be a civilian coup d’etat; there’ll be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday. He [Akufo-Addo] will be fed up with the Presidency.”

The tough-talking NDC politician was picked up at the Accra International Press Center by plain-clothed officers. The NDC was having a press conference to react to the controversial Ghana-US Military Cooperation agreement shortly before the arrest.
In an attempt to disperse the crowd, Police used Water Cannons to disperse the crowd. According to reports, there was gunshot fired into the crowd which caused one woman to sustain an injury and one been sent to the Hospital.
