The Federal Government of Nigeria has lifted the ban on Twitter operations in the country.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement and Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), announced this today, January 12.

Kashifu said in a statement that the approval came as a result of a memo written to the President by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

According to the statement, Twitter has agreed to the Federal government’s conditions, which include establishing a legal entity in Nigeria during the first quarter of 2022, appointing a designated country representative to interface with Nigerian authorities, and complying with applicable tax obligations on its operations under Nigerian law, among other things.

The suspension will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. on January 13th, 2022.

Nigerians have reacted with joy to the news especially when those who wanted to access Twitter had to do it with a VPN.

According to them, VPN is over which means their phone batteries would last longer. Below are some of the screenshots of the reactions.
