You go on strike over poor salaries but insult footballers over bonuses – Asamoah Gyan

Baby Jet Asamoah Gyan has called out the criticisms from Ghanaians that frequently follow players’ demand for their winning bonuses.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaian-British Entrepreneur Akosua Dentaa on her Dentaa Show program, Asamoah Gyan stressed that every worker deserves to be paid better and given bonuses if he/she performs well.

So he finds it very amusing and bewildering when Ghanaians slam players for requesting winning bonuses.

The former Blackstars Captain continued that just like workers usually go on strike to demand their delayed salaries, footballers also need to be paid for their work done.

“The national team is being paid bonuses. One journalist comes up with a story and people jump on it,” the veteran striker said on the Dentaa Show.

“This is our career, I’m a footballer, I need to be paid. Why do doctors go on strike? You only attack footballers because they’re taking bonuses but when you’re not being paid, you go on strike.”

“…behind the scene, those same people will tell you ‘you have a case’. But when they go on social media, they demonstrate hypocrisy.”

Asamoah Gyan declares his intentions of playing for Ghana

Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has declared his intentions to be part of Ghana’s team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking in an interview with BBC’s John Bennett, Asamoah Gyan admitted he is not fully fit at the moment and is currently on his energy and stamina to be fully fit to compete in active competitions. READ MORE HERE
