Man arrested over attempted ritual murder granted GH¢500,000 bail

The Criminal Division of the Accra High Court has admitted Evans Kyekyeku Oppong, the Ghanaian businessman apprehended for allegedly trying to sacrifice his daughter for ritual purposes, to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000.

In fulfilment of the bail application moved on Wednesday, August 10, by his lawyers led by Ralph Agyepong, Mr Oppong was asked to produce two sureties both of whom are to be justified.

Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh who heard the bail application also directed that the accused report to the case investigator every Tuesday until the final determination of the case.

Earlier in June, a video emerged of the 47-year-old father of 12 in the home of a supposed herbalist waiting to go under a procedure to offer two of his children to be killed for money rituals to overcome his financial problems.

In a police report, the herbalist identified as Nana Adu-Boafo Jnr said the man claimed he was struggling overseas so he came to him and expressed his readiness to do anything to get back on his feet.

He however gave a tip-off to the security service who sent personnel to storm his compound to nab the suspect and rescued the victims.

Speaking in an interview with GTV, the wife of the suspect said her husband called her on Tuesday – three days earlier before the incident- to inform her about his plans to take their daughter out.

Evelyn Kemeh said after he picked up his children from school on Friday morning and the next phone call that came in was from the police who informed her about his husband’s arrest.
