Minority boycotts swearing-in of Lydia Alhassan, new MP of Ayawaso Wuogon

The Minority in Parliament boycotted the swearing-in of the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West-Wuoguon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

The new Member of Parliament who was the wife of the late Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko won the election with 68.8 per cent.

The minority who were clad in red and black decided not to be part of the swearing-in ceremony and walked out of the premises.

The Chief Whip of the minority, who is also the MP for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak stated that they decided to boycott the swearing-in due to brutalities meted out to the NDC supporters during the by-election.

It was reported that over 18 people sustained gunshot wounds from gunmen believed to be members from the National Security.

However, the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu led Lydia Seyram Alhassan also known as Maa Lydia to take the oath of office.
