The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia today visited victims of the gas explosion which happened on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Madina-Atomic Junction in Accra.

Dr. Bawumia was touring with the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Tamale for a three-day official visit but had to rush back to Accra on Sunday morning to get first- hand information on the catastrophic incident.

Addressing the media on Sunday morning, he warned against any form of resistance to an upcoming policy to enforce safety standards at fuel stations.

“This is one too many. This is about the eighth explosion that has happened in three years, and I think what Ghanaians really want is solid policies to deal with this once and for all. We are going to move to deal with it. It is not about committees upon committees and nothing gets done. I think that we owe it to the country and the government is going to take this very seriously,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia had visited the scene to check the level of damage before heading to the 37 Military Hospital to commiserate with the victims who died and sustained serious burn injuries.
