6. Al-Merreikh – Sudan – 1567 points
Al-Merreikh is one of the oldest football clubs in Africa with a founding date in 1908. They have won the national title 16 times and finished as the runners-up another 24 times.
With their 14 national cups, they are a real threat to Al Hilal who are located on the other side of the Al-Ardha street in Omdurman.
Internationally they have done well in the CAF Confederations Cup. Winning it in 1989 and finishing as the runner-up in 2007. In 2014 they won the CECAFA Clubs Cup.
5. Etoile du Sahel – Tunisia – 1573 points
Located in Sousse in the Sahel region of Tunisia Etoile du Sahel was founded in 1925. With 10 national titles, including last season, and another 10 national cups they are one of the most successful clubs in Tunisia.
Internationally they have also done quite well. Winning the CAF Confederation Cup in 2006 and 2015, the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1997 and 2003, and the CAF Cup in 1995 and 1999.
They have also done very well in the African Super Cup, winning it twice in 1998 and 2008. They finished in second place in 2004, 2007 and most recently in 2016.Overall excellent results!
